Fundraiser For Standing Rock
Friday, September 23, from 6pm – 9pm, we will be having a special fundraiser for the Standing Rock Sioux of North Dakota. In an effort to protect water and sacred places, the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe of North Dakota is facing a long struggle. They have asked for support in their struggle. As a result, thousands of Native Americans and Non-Native Americans have gone to camps there set up to show support. Here is an opportunity for those of us that can’t attend, but would like to support their cause, by having this fundraiser with the proceeds going to the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe’s struggle. We will be selling Native American food such as Indian Tacos and Fry Bread. For more info, call Keith Dayson 313-846-6030

The Arab American National Museum is pleased to announce a wonderful opportunity for young women at our museum this fall starting in October! They are proud to present their newest FREE arts program, Reel Stories: Empowering Young Women through the Art of Filmmaking. Reel Stores is a Museums Connect project, an initiative of the US Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and a joint program with the Palestinian Heritage Museum in East Jerusalem.
The program will bring together 40 young women who are interested in film making, 20 from metro Detroit and 20 from East Jerusalem. Participants will learn the art of film making, through a 20-week intensive program that includes technical skill-building in film production,  facilitated dialogues on identity and gender empowerment, and participation in an immersive cultural exchange via social media and public programming.
Reel Stories will be lead by experienced local and international film makers and editors, and will entail the production two short films by students. The program will culminate in a series of public film screenings and an exhibition at the Arab American National Museum and in East Jerusalem at the Palestinian Heritage Museum.
