Holiday Closure
AIHFS will be closed Wednesday, July 4th, in observance of Independence day. This also means there will not be Wellbriety, Women’s Society, or Men’s Society that day. We will resume all regular business the following day, Thursday, July 5th. Please plan accordingly.

Sacred Roots Garden Work

Family Olympics
The Michigan Indian Family Olympics will take place on Friday July 20th, 2018 at Central Michigan University’s Bennett Track and Field in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan. The Olympics brings together native people from all over the state for a day filled with fun, community, and health and wellness. Join our Detroit team! Wellness Beyond The Walls

Film Screening Postponement
The project happiness film screening with Native Cry that was scheduled for July 30th here at AIHFS has been postponed to a date as yet to be determined.

Suicide Prevention Training
AIHFS is having an ASIST (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training) August 9th-10th at the DoubleTree Hotel on 5801 Southfield Rd, Detroit, MI 48228. ASIST trainings are 2-day, eight hour trainings for anyone 16 or older—regardless of prior mental health experience—who wants to be able to provide suicide first aid. Attendees must come to both days of the training to receive certification. Training is funded by the Sacred Bundle Program at AIHFS and is at no cost to attendees! Fresh Food Share
Fresh Food Share is an easy, low-cost way to get your fruits and veggies. Through Gleaner’s, the program sources produce and will deliver your order to AIHFS for you to pick-up. The next Fresh Food Share order due date is August 12th.

Northern Indigenous Games

PrEP for HIV Prevention
PrEP stands for Pre-exposure prophylaxis. Studies done so far show a reduction of HIV infection by 92% in people who take the pill EVERY DAY. PrEP does not work this well if it isn’t taken every day. Say and Play Focus Group
Parents of young children are invited to a focus group to give their input about an initiative to improve vocabulary and language development for children under five. The group will take place Friday, January 29, 11am-1:30pm. Lunch and activities for children will be provided. Please come share your ideas and opinions! Traditional Spirituality Program
We will be selecting participants for a 12 week program organized around the sweat lodge. If you are interested in participating in this new twelve-week program that will orient members of Detroit’s urban American Indian community to Indigenous traditional spirituality and tribal ceremonial practices, then download the following screening documents in either a word doc or a pdf.

Women’s Talking Circle
WELCOME ALL LADIES!!!! Are you tired of watching afternoon soaps ? Cleaning the house got you down? That pot of coffee not keeping you peppy during the day? Well hey, it’s time to break up the monotony of your week and come to AIHFS for Women’s Talking Circle. We meet every Wednesday from 12-2pm. A potluck lunch is provided w/ the assistance of our lovely ladies in attendance . Be among Women  who are caring and compassionate and need a break just like you.  We have crafts to challenge your creative side. We do exercises to enhance your figure. We have Talking Circles to relieve the stress and find inner peace with your spirit sisters. So ladies please join us and heal your spirit and mind.
