Agency Closure
February 15th, AIHFS will be closed for all services due to President’s Day.  Please plan accordingly. All regular services will resume the following day.

U of M Public Lectures
February 11, the University of Michigan School of Natural Resources & Environment speakers series will have Dr. Robin Kimmerer speak on The Honorable Harvest: Indigenous Knowledge for Biodiversity Conservation. There will also be a panel discussion of Traditional Ecological Knowledges.2-5-16 UM lecture

Women’s Sweat Lodge

Talking Circle and Sweat Lodge
Friday, July 24, from 2-4pm we will have a Talking Circle followed up directly with a fire and sweat lodge preparations. We plan on entering the Lodge around 6pm. Tony Davis, LTBB of Odawa Indians, will be conducting both.

Annual Tour of Detroit Urban Gardens & Farms
Wednesday, AUG 5th, join us on a bus or bike tour visiting a sampling of our city’s 1,400 urban gardens & farms and celebrate how gardeners, entrepreneurs, and food-focused organizations are working together to grow a beautiful and thriving food system.
All tours will leave from Eastern Market Shed 3, located east of Russell Street between Adelaide and Division Streets. Check-in begins at 5:00pm and tours will leave at 6:00pm sharp. After the tour, a reception featuring locally-grown food and refreshments prepared by local chefs will provide attendees with a taste of Detroit’s delicious culinary landscape. Advanced registration is strongly encouraged. The fee for the tour, paid when you register, is a sliding scale $15-$100. Register here.

Calling All Artists

The We Are SW community art exhibition is looking for submissions by July 26th. The opening, Sat Aug 8th, will be at Grace in Action on Lawndale s of Vernor.  We’re looking for work exploring Realities and Resistance to Land Displacement, Environmental Toxification and Cultural Gentrification in SW Detroit. Also work that celebrates and lifts up SW/indigenous history, culture, people, stories. All forms of expression are encouraged, visual, performance, installation, storytelling, prayer, historical, dance song……send submissions to HealingResistance@gmail.com
