World Suicide Prevention Day
Join us For World Suicide Prevention Day!
September 10th 4:00pm-7:00pm at AIHFS [4880 Lawndale, Detroit, 48210] We will be having BBQ, Traditional crafts, Visual Arts- pop up mural painting, Open Mic [special poetry sharing from Youth United & Awkward Theory will be performing!].  We will also be breaking down stigma through activities with Youth United.  Use our Hashtags for the event #WSPD2015 and #HealingHelpers
Hope & Wellness Screenings will be offered- youth ages 10-24 get a $20 giftcard for participating.  Under 18’s don’t forget to bring your parents to sign consents!

AIHFS Closed for Training
Friday, September 11, AIHFS will be closed for training. We will resume our regular hours of operation on Monday, September 14.

 

Community Advisory Council
Thursday, September 17th, from 5:30-7:30pm, we will be having our monthly community advisory council meeting. This month we are having a Community Advisory Council Appreciation Night with a traditional feast and gifting. Everyone is welcome! For more info, John Marcus, 313-846-6030.

 

Traditional Dinner Event
Join us on Sept. 18th at 6pm for our Decolonizing Our Diet: Healing Our Bodies, Healing Ourselves event as we discuss wellness and native foods and enjoy a traditional dinner. Community Advisory Council

Thursday, July 16, from 5:30-7:30pm we will be holding our monthly meeting. AIHFS is currently searching for a new facility and we want your input! A new space will provide many opportunities and we would like for you to be a part of the discussion. Everyone is welcome.

As an organization, AIHFS is looking to move to a new location. We have been growing for many years and our current space can no longer provide enough space for AIHFS events and services. DMC Grant Press Release
American Indian Health and Family Services (AIHFS) received a grant of $50,650 from The DMC Foundation. The purpose of the grant is to expand the Healing Our Bodies, Healing Ourselves cooking classes and encourage healthier diets and lifestyles.

Talking Circle and Sweat Lodge
Friday, July 24, from 2-4pm we will have a Talking Circle followed up directly with a fire and sweat lodge preparations. We plan on entering the Lodge around 6pm. Tony Davis, LTBB of Odawa Indians, will be conducting both.

NAIA Gardening Class
Create an amazing container garden in one day! Register for this free class with MSU’s Alyce Hartman, a master gardener and all around gardening rock star! She has taught food and garden related courses for years, and even ran her own food-related nonprofit in California for 7 years. She now lives in Detroit and wants to teach us how to get the most out of an easy urban gardening method. Supplies are included with this FREE class. Class space is for registrants only. NAIA Summer Art Classes
