Healthy Start Playgroup
Families with young children are invited to join us for our October playgroup on Friday, October 20 from 11am-1:30pm. This month our Madonna University nursing students will be leading an activity about nutrition, including making homemade baby food. Parents will receive a $10 Meijer gift card for participating. Domestic Violence Awareness
1 in 3 women and 1 in 4 men have been victims of some form of physical violence by an intimate partner within their lifetime. 1 in 4 women and 1 in 7 men have been victims of severe physical violence by an intimate partner in their lifetime. On a typical day, there are more than 20,000 phone calls placed to domestic violence hotlines nationwide. The presence of a gun in a domestic violence situation increases the risk of homicide by 500%.

 

Election Inspectors Wanted
The City of Detroit Department of Elections is recruiting inspectors for the general election. There is a $175 stipend. You do not have to be a resident of Detroit to be an Inspector, but you must be a registered voter in the State of Michigan.

Graduate Program
The Buder Center for American Indian Studies is a premier graduate program in Social Work. They are committed to preparing and supporting future American Indian leaders to practice in tribal and urban settings, making significant contributions to health, wellness, and the sustained future of Indian Country.

 

Youth Leadership Summit on Race
New Detroit in partnership with the University of Michigan – Dearborn will host a free Youth Leadership Summit on Race for racially diverse high school students in Grades 9-12 on Saturday, November 4, 2017 from 8:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. at University of Michigan-Dearborn (4901 Evergreen Rd, Dearborn, MI 48128), in Kochoff Hall.  Here is the link for registration:

Udall Scholarship
The Udall scholarship provides $5,000 scholarships to college sophomores and juniors for leadership, public service, and commitment to issues related to American Indian nations, specifically tribal policy or native health care. Here is the link for more info:

Pow Wow Artwork Contest
The Native American Student Association (NASA), of University of Michigan, is calling for artwork for the 46th Annual Dance for Mother Earth Powwow. The winning design will be featured in advertising, the program, and on t-shirts and other official merchandise. The winner will receive a choice of a $400 payment or a single complimentary vendor space at the powwow.
