Pow Wow Volunteers Needed
American Indian Health & Family Services will be hosting their Annual Pow Wow & Health Fair Saturday, August 19 at Romanowski Park in Detroit, MI. We will be offering a Volunteer Orientation for all volunteers and a Pow Wow 101 Workshop for those new to pow wows before the event in August. If you are interested joining this volunteer opportunity, please contact Shandiin Church at schurch@aihfs.org.

 

Community Advisory Council
Thursday, July 20, 5:30pm-7:30pm, we will have Grace Schmitz, from the Great Lakes Inter-Tribal Epidemiology Center. She is returning to share findings from a series of interviews she did in our community previously around tobacco. Everyone is welcome! For more info call me, John Marcus, at 313-846-3718.

 

Healthy Start Playgroup
Families with young children are invited to join us for our July playgroup on Friday, July 14th from 11am-1:30pm. We will be playing outside with sidewalk chalk, getting to splash in the wading pool, and other fun outdoor children’s games (weather permitting). Lunch will be provided, and transportation is available for families participating in the Healthy Start program. Know Your Rights Workshop
Healthy Start at AIHFS hosts Michigan United on Friday, July 28th from 11am-1:30pm for a workshop that teaches how you can help your family or others in your community become aware of their legal rights when it comes to being of undocumented immigration status. Learn about ways to respond and take action in the face of potential detention or deportation. Lunch and childcare will be provided. This workshop will be lead in Spanish with English and Arabic interpretation available. For more information please contact the Healthy Start office at (313) 846-6030 extension 1300.


American Indian Commercial Tobacco Program (AICTP)
The AICTP has set a goal of enrolling 183 people in their program by July 31st. They offer American Indians free access to online tools, support from other commercial tobacco users, and other information to help you achieve harmony and balance by quitting the use of commercial tobacco.
