Summer Day Camp
We are doing Summer Day Camp for Little Dreamers [Kids 5-7 years old] in August. Call Martha/Christy for more information [313+846-6030] Parents must come in and register their little dreamer. We will be available for registrations on Mondays or Fridays, just give us a call to set it up.
Garden Workday

Community Advisory Council

AIHFS Pow Wow and Health Fair
Saturday, August 27, 12pm to 5pm, we will have our annual pow wow and health fair! The event will be open to the public beginning at 11am, which is when we will also have a Wellness Walk. Our host drum will be Southern Straight and we are open to all dancers. We will have Native American arts and crafts, as well as Native food available for purchase. This is a free event and we are recommending you bring your lawn chairs so you’ll be able to watch all the dancing in comfort. Cooling Center
The Team Wellness Center is opening its Eastern Market Clinic, located at 2925 Russell Street in the heart of Detroit’s historic Eastern Market, to provide refuge from this week’s heat wave by serving as a Cooling Center for men, women and families. It is open from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m., Monday through Saturday. Temperatures are expected to surge into the upper 90s through the weekend. “We welcome anyone to join us to cool off during this extreme heat that can be dangerous, especially for people who have medical conditions,” says Team Wellness Center President Pamela Lamb. “We have a large lobby with a television, a playhouse for kids, and a snack bar with cold water. We have plenty of space for people to come and get comfortable.” The Salvation Army Bed & Bread Club’s truck delivers free lunches every day between noon and 1 p.m. at Team Wellness Center. Anyone visiting Team Wellness Center as a Cooling Center is not required to be a client at the clinic, which treats mental illness and addiction, and provides services for employment, housing, GED classes, job training, a primary care physician and medical staff, HIV/STD testing, psychiatry, therapists, opioid dependency, groups for Narcotics Anonymous and Alcoholics Anonymous, as well as Specialty Treatment Teams for many groups including veterans, LGBT individuals, women and seniors. Team Wellness Center also provides free transportation on a 24-passenger bus and two vans. Most insurance plans are accepted. Action Lab
Applications have been extended until July 25 for next year’s cohort of the Detroit Equity Action Lab (DEAL), which will begin in September 2016 and meet through May/June 2017. The DEAL is a combination of a learning community, a support network, and an action lab made up of folks and organizations from Metro Detroit who are working for racial equity.

National Program for Intercultural Leadership
The Intercultural Leadership Institute is offering a new year-long rigorous personal and leadership development program for artists, culture bearers and other arts professionals. The Intercultural Leadership Institute (ILI) is a collaborative program of Alternate ROOTS, First Peoples Fund, National Association of Latino Arts and Cultures (NALAC) and PA’I Foundation. These four partner organizations have created ILI out of a shared commitment to pursue cultural equity and to support artists, culture bearers, and other arts professionals as change-makers in their communities.
Applications for the first Intercultural Leadership Institute cohort are being accepted online now through September 13, 2016. More information and a link to the online application is available at ileadershipi.net.
San Francisco Fellowship
The Christensen Fund is offering a two-year Fellowship, based in San Francisco, to an early- to mid-career professional with strong Indigenous connections, a unique opportunity to deeply learn about philanthropy thru extensive hands-on grant making experience, individual coaching, and mentorship. The Fellow will lead grant making in The Christensen Fund Bay Area Program and contribute to several other projects across the Fund. The Fellowship will include dedicated time for personal cultural study/practice (such as language learning, art, music or dance)—to be defined by the Fellow. The online application can be found HERE:

WHAT – At Power Shift 2016, youth leaders will strategize with their fellow activists and gain valuable, practical skills such as campaign planning, voter education, citizen lobbying, power mapping, and bird-dogging, all with a focus on the ongoing campaigns, struggles, and needs of their region and community.
